Reentering Pole Dancing After a Hiatus: Your Comeback
As someone who has had an on-and-off pole dancing journey, I know firsthand the challenges and possibilities associated with reentering pole dancing after taking a break.
If you once embraced the empowering world of pole dancing but took a hiatus, this blog will provide perspective and help set you up for a powerful and safe comeback story.
Embracing Change with Open Arms
“Life be lifing” has been a consistent sentiment of the times.
Sometimes, as much as we love our passions, they take a backseat to other responsibilities. Taking a hiatus from pole dancing is more common than you might think, whether due to a demanding job, family commitments, or unexpected life events. The beauty lies in knowing that, like falling off a bike, you can get back up and keep going. You, too, can rekindle your love for the pole.
Reflecting on Your Journey
Before you lace up or buckle up your pole shoes and swing back into action, take a moment to reflect on your pole dancing journey and lean into your why.
What initially drew you to pole? What goals did you achieve and what new aspirations have emerged during your time away? Reflecting on your journey 1) reminds you of the magic you already possess 2) reconnects you with your passion and 3) helps set realistic and meaningful goals for the upcoming year.
Easing Back In: Mind and Body
Returning to pole dancing after a hiatus requires a delicate balance of patience and self-compassion. Your body may not move as effortlessly as it once did, and that’s perfectly okay. Never skimp on the warm-up exercises or the cool-down. They are your friend.
Gradually reintroduce yourself to familiar spins and poses, and listen attentively to your body’s cues. Pole dancing is not just a physical practice but a mental one, and acknowledging both aspects is key to a successful comeback.
Setting Realistic Goals
As you embark on your reentry journey, set realistic and achievable goals.
Your goals don’t even have to be pole-related. Great goals when reentering pole dancing can simply be about having a good time or building community. Whether mastering a new trick, regaining flexibility, or attending several weekly classes, establishing your objectives can help provide you with a roadmap for your personal success. Be sure to celebrate small victories along the way! I often remind myself, ‘Beyonce wasn’t built in a day.’
Embracing Community Support
One of the most irreplaceable aspects of pole dancing is the community.
Reconnect with fellow pole enthusiasts, whether it’s through social media or local studios. I love celebrating and acknowledging the work of amazing artists worldwide via social media and even love when they embrace and recognize my appreciation for their art. You too can share your journey with others no matter what level you are. Sharing your comeback journey provides motivation and opens doors to valuable tips, encouragement, and shared experiences.
The Power of a Fresh Start
As you get back on the pole again, embrace the power of a fresh start. Release any self-judgment or comparison to your past abilities and body. Your journey is uniquely yours, and each spin and climb is a testament to your strength, resilience, and commitment to self-expression.
Reentering pole dancing after a hiatus is a beautiful step towards rediscovering your passion and embracing personal growth. Get ready to re-experience your love for the pole and remind yourself how amazing you are! Welcome back to the world of pole dancing; your journey continues, and the pole eagerly awaits your return.
