Interview with New PoleCon Instructor: Akasha Thorn

We are sitting down to talk to our new instructors for PoleCon 2026! Learn more about them and then click here to purchase their workshop

1. We’re so excited to have you teach at PoleCon 2026 this year! Can you tell us a little more about what you’re teaching?

Akasha Thorn performs a knee hook pole move

High & Heavy started as a 5 part series that I pulled together into a 1 time intensive. I focus on breathwork, high energy moves for bigger bodies, and heavy impact transitions that can easily be melded into choreo. I am also focusing on mistake recovery. A lot of times, you have a slip up or go off script because of a malfunction. How you recover could be the difference between an amazing performance and an amazing flop. We are exploring daring appearances with a flair of attitude.

2. Is there something that defines your style of teaching or your content that is unique to you?

My students call me Major Payne if that is any inkling. I push my students to be the best version of themselves and explore pole in ways that work for them. We do not use the word “can’t” in my classes. We explore sensuality and make the impossible possible while preserving our sense of individuality.

3. What is the one thing you want your students to leave with after taking your workshop?

I want my students to leave the workshop with a better understanding of their bodies and how to turn up the energy of a routine without wrecking their stamina. I want them to leave excited and in love with themselves.

4. What are you most excited about for PoleCon 2026?

I am most excited to expand my community this year. One thing about Polecon is that there are so many new people to meet and I cannot wait to make a new friend!

5. Anything else you want to share with PoleCon attendees?

Ultimately, I want attendees to know not be afraid to try something new and not be afraid to start over. You do not have to be the loudest in the room to be the baddest in the room.
