Interview with New PoleCon Instructor: Utter Beauty

1. We’re so excited to have you teach at PoleCon this year! Can you tell us a little more about what you’re teaching?

I’m honored to be a guest instructor this year at Pole Con! My Freedom Flow Workshop is centered in freestyle movement. Using foundational moves, we explore how to embellish those movements to truly make them unique. Throughout my workshop I’ll be providing prompts and cues to help each student step out of their comfort zones and take up space, literally and creatively.

2. Is there something that defines your style of teaching or your content that is unique to you?

Oh my goodness! Such a loaded question! I feel as though I’m still defining my style, however, I have embraced more modern and contemporary movements into my style. Many have defined my style as sensual based movement, and I absolutely LIVE for sensual movements, however, I’m growing in my journey and my personal movement has shifted immensely. I love musicality and I embrace a plethora of music genres. I hope to showcase that this year in my performance and my workshop.

3. What is the one thing you want your students to leave with after taking your workshop?

I want my students to leave inspired, empowered, and unapologetic. We often get put in a “box” and our growth suffers from it. Pole and dance is BEYOND pole and dance. Pole has a way of teaching life lessons so my goal is to push my students beyond their limits to reach new magnitudes!

4. What are you most excited about for PoleCon 2022?

If I had to pick just one thing, I’m excited about seeing all the beautiful people! Our community has so many amazingly talented beings and I can’t wait to see the performers take the stage. Also, I’m excited about hosting my very first workshop at Pole Con! It’s been a goal of mine and I’m thankful for my students and friends who have continuously shown me love and support throughout the years!

5. Anything else you want to share with PoleCon attendees?

Pole Con is what you make it. Please take advantage of the opportunity we have to learn from each other, to network, to love on another, and to explore the great city of Atlanta!

Colleen

Colleen Jolly is an entrepreneur and a pole dance enthusiast. She has been poling for 12 years, is the CEO of PoleCon and the Executive Director of the IPIA. She teaches pole, lyra, floorwork, and mobility online and in-person in the DC metro area. She has been active in leadership roles in several international businesses over the past two decades and is also an award-winning pole dancer, artist, writer, and speaker. She is certified in several movement modalities and wrote the book "Mobility for Pole" to help pole dancers move better.
