Interview with New PoleCon Instructor: Zoe Lang
We are sitting down to talk to our new instructors for PoleCon: West 2025! Learn more about them and then click here to purchase their workshop
1. We’re so excited to have you teach at PoleCon: West this year! Can you tell us a little more about what you’re teaching?
I’m beyond excited to be a workshop provider this year and will be teaching my Props Professional (Rope Burn) Workshop.
This workshop was inspired by a routine I created for a nautical themed show my friend Sparkling Spitfire runs in Ireland called Pandora’s Box.
The routine told a story of a stowaway on a boat, found by sailors and the stowaway takes the ropes that the sailors use to tie her up to create her own alluring dance. The workshop will focus on storytelling and incorporating the rope prop into each movement. Set to a sensual song (Ropeburn by Jannet Jackson) you’ll be luring those sailors in to keep you forever.
2. Is there something that defines your style of teaching or your content that is unique to you?
My style of teaching would probably be described as fun, light hearted and relaxed. I want you to enjoy learning the details while finding movement that works for you. Incorporating any prop can be hard when performing, so I work to try and give helpful tips that can be transferred to any prop you plan to use in future.
3. What is the one thing you want your students to leave with after taking your workshop?
I want students to feel like they are leaving with some magic tricks, using a prop to surprise audiences with unusual prop work. You’ll feel like a magician!
4. What are you most excited about for PoleCon: West 2025?
I love meeting new people and I’m sure there will be a lot of it at PoleCon! This will also be my first US workshop so it’s exciting to be ticking it off my bucket list! I had a few American students online during lockdown so it’s going to be amazing meeting some of them in person too!
5. Anything else you want to share with PoleCon: West attendees?
Ask questions and don’t be shy to ask me to repeat myself, I’m sure you have fun learning from a Glaswegian but it can be hard to pick up the accent. So please ask!
I’ll throw in some Scottish slang for you all to learn too!
